Unique Full Moon

As I was reading through the news today trying to decide which topic was interesting for me to blog about, I came across the perfect one.  I really enjoy watching the moon come up in the evening and see it set in the sky.  I think it is a beautiful thing, especially if the skies are cloudy and the moon pops in beautiful whiteness out from behind a looming cloud.  With that being said, it is no wonder than I picked to blog about the unique full moon we are expected to have tomorrow.

Tomorrow afternoon we are expected to experience a unique full moon.  These moons are only viewable about every twenty years.  The last one was seen in 1993.  This moon is referred to as a "supermoon."  Scientists say that it is not to be associated with any natural disasters.  The moon will just simply be the closest to Earth that it ever will be for 2011.  It will appear larger as well as brighter during this time.  http://www.space.com/11161-supermoon-full-moon-science-infographic.html  In October, the moon will be the furthest from Earth for this year.  The only thing out of the ordinary expected from this is that it will result in a dramatically large range of high and low ocean tides.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20110318/sc_space/supermoonrisesbiggestfullmoonin18yearsoccurssaturdaynight  I will definitely be keeping an eye out to see this moon that will look pretty impressive.

  1. WOW! I'm so happy that you posted about this, I am going to be outside waiting to see. I love it when you look up in the sky and there is something different and beautiful to experience, like one night when I was just walking outside to get in the car I got to see a meteor shower, and another night when I stepped out for a cig the moon was totally surrounded by red-thanks for letting us in on this experience!

  2. I love events such as these. I was able to experience the eclipse earlier this year because a friend invited me to check it out with him. We laid in a little field, next to water, in the freezing cold weather for 3 hours watching it. It was amazing and such a blast. I love watching the night sky...it's so vast and mysterious.
